Common questions before your first session

Do I need to be a club member before my first session?

No — your first session is a free trial, no membership needed. If you decide to keep training, group rates are linked to Bayside Triathlon Club or Sandringham Athletics Club membership, and we can walk you through joining after your trial.

What should I bring to a trial session?

For a swim squad: bathers, goggles and a drink bottle — GESAC pool entry is sorted for trial swimmers. For a run session: runners and comfortable training kit. For a ride: a roadworthy bike, helmet, lights for early starts, and spares. If in doubt, just ask when you book.

How fit do I need to be to join?

There's no minimum standard. Sessions run in ability groups, so complete beginners train alongside experienced athletes at their own pace. Coaches adjust distances, intervals and lanes to suit you from the first session.

Where do sessions start?

Most sessions run at GESAC in Bentleigh East (swimming and spin), Sandringham Athletics Track (Tuesday runs) and around the Hampton foreshore, with rides leaving from Cheltenham Station. Every venue is listed with a map link on the timetable page.

What happens next

  1. Tell us a little about you

Whether you're a complete beginner, a junior, or an experienced athlete chasing a personal best — every enquiry starts with a chat about your goals.

  2. We'll suggest a session to try — free

Clint will point you at the best session on the weekly timetable for your level — a swim squad at GESAC in Bentleigh East, a track run at Sandringham, or a Bayside road ride. See the weekly timetable.

  3. Train, then decide

Meet the coaches and the squad, try the session, and only then pick a membership package that suits — no pressure, no lock-in beyond the standard notice period. Browse membership packages.
